International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on 8th March to celebrate the achievements of women all around the globe. Regardless of the gender of your child, it is of utmost significance to make him/her understand and reflect this knowledge in real life. Girl-Power Movie Marathon
Film Industries have been quite humble towards the elevation in the society to now treat women as equals. It would indeed be an eye-opener if your child could witness these changes right?. Watch the 20th Century movies, unravelling the striving and thriving female characters being fearless and living up to their expectations. This would help your child critically think and analyze the revolutionary changes that had been transforming the world throughout the years. Independence through Self-Defence
No matter how democratic or secular the world has become, or becomes in the future, certain discrepancies keep toppling down the goodness in the world. No matter the gender, your child must be able to protect himself/herself as well as someone naïve from the manacle of cruelty.This women’s day activity for preschoolers is to talk to your child about good touch and bad touch. Watch a few tutorials and videos that clearly explain these touches. This would make your child aware of his/her feelings as well as socially aware of the world. Along with the textures of touches, try heading towards basic self-defence techniques so your child can be confident and fearless on his/her own.
Image Quiz
How sharp is your child’s general knowledge? Does he/she know about all the famous women celebrities, scientists, athletes, etc. who have marked a resplendent reputation for themselves in their careers? Time to find out! Collect a list of images of famous women all across the world and write their names on the bottom of their images. A few examples are Indira Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu, Jane Austen, Anne Frank, J.K Rowling, Malala Youzufai, Michelle Obama, Kalpana Chawla, etc. Make sure to include women from diverse careers and achievements. One by one, show these images to your child while hiding the names using your hands. Gradually reveal their names and talk about what all they did to make the world proud of them. This is an exceptional activity for your child to see beyond the ordinary and understand how scattered women’s ambitions can be!
Scribble it out!
There are thousands of roles that a woman can play! Homemaker, Teacher, Astronaut, Author, and what not!? How about we list all these out for better clarity for your child? This will help him/her understand the majestic opportunities that are readily available to be savoured by women. Take a few coloured papers and cut equal-sized rectangular shapes from them. On each of them, scribble down the roles for women as mentioned above. Want to work a little more hard on it? Go through newspapers, magazines, etc., and cut out the images of women pursuing the roles as listed in the rectangular cut-outs and paste them behind them respectively. Take a long thread, linearly paste all these cut-outs. Looks like decorative hanging art right?
A Family Dinner!
Who said Thanksgiving is the only occasion when you’re supposed to be grateful? Let’s make a change of traditions, shall we? Introduce a family dinner this women’s day where your whole family sits together and eats a scrumptious meal. If possible, try that the women wear dresses of their ethnicity. Once the meal is done, have a heart-to-heart talk about the struggles and achievements the women in your household have gone through and achieved. Celebrate the women in your own homes, let them talk about the little pleasures that were overlooked but meant bliss to them, let the men express all that they’re grateful for to these gorgeous women. This is the perfect time to teach your kids what kind of a responsible and respectable person to become through the lessons of your own lives. After all, home is the best place to learn, right?
