Math! Numbers! Equations!

If I could name a horror movie, these would mostly be the ones that I might come up with.

Our liking of math and numbers depends a lot on our early age interaction with it. Also, having number knowledge is essential for preschoolers to understand complex math later. Thus, making the need to understand numbers a crucial ability for children to master. Children encounter and observe various mathematical concepts since infancy, such as quantity comparison and pattern recognition. From the age of 1 itself, you can introduce your children to numbers. They will start comprehending numbers only around five years of age.

Introducing numbers at an early age will set your kids up with a great start in math. Number activities for preschoolers do not have to be boring and limited to worksheets; make them enjoyable so your preschooler will love math!

3, 2, 1, Ready! You are about to master how to teach your kids numbers by not compromising on the fun!

1.Number Story

Many children’s storybooks blend the fun and relatability of stories with arithmetic learning without making it uninteresting. It is just like a blend of healthy fruits in a tasty smoothie. Try reading aloud such storybooks that will keep your child engaging, and you may also make it interactive by asking your children to guess or repeat the number patterns in the story.

2.Number Rhymes

There are a plethora of nursery songs or rhymes for children to enjoy and learn numbers available. You can get access to a mixture of such songs through youtube, having endless resources for everything. You might also have her count peas or apples thus, connecting numbers and amounts. Another idea is to encourage her to count her toys while she assists you in putting them away after they have played with them.

5. Connect the Dots

Oh, this is a fantastically entertaining method to learn numbers. It helps the child to learn the sequence of numbers. Draw creative images and leave them unfinished with dots and numbers for your child to connect and complete. Begin by simple figures such as a triangle with three digits and dots to join and complete to form a triangle. Many connect-the-dots books are available, with multiple illustrations outlined by numbered dots. These dots need to be connected sequentially to draw the shape. Once completed drawing, let your child color the figure to make the game more fun.

6. Make numbers a work of art

Painting is one of the earliest ways to get kids thinking about numbers creatively. While this won’t get kids to understand numbers in any order, that’s alright. They may see the numbers, sketch them, color them in vivid colors, and repeat the number out loud while having fun with painting. You can also create art pieces of numbers by adding glitters to outlined numbers or drawing patterns.

7. Readout Numbers in Neighbourhood

There is no need to sit around inside with numbers games. Take your child on a walk, numbering the number of houses down the street. When a car or a bus passes, check if they could identify the numbers in the front. Parked cars also have numbers. Count the number of street lights on the street.

Make learning numbers an adventure for your children, and they will appreciate the process even more. As they see numbers in all kinds of different places other than chalkboards and exercise books, they will also start to see them as more than just numbers. In their own modest way, they will begin to realize that numbers are significant.

8. Count Fingers and Toes

Counting fingers and toes is an excellent approach to introducing numbers to preschoolers. You may have them count their fingers on each hand and compare how many fingers they have on each hand. You can also inquire as to how many big toes or little fingers they have.

9. Organize by Numbers

Here’s a terrific method to start your preschoolers cleaning up after themselves while also teaching them to count. If your living space frequently resembles a toy store after an earthquake, make cleaning up a game. Ask your kid to put away three, four, or more toys while counting them out loud. Cheer at every right number and toy movement from the floor to the basket as if it’s one less thing for you to do. As their number sense develops, watch how many toys they can accurately count into the basket until one fine day, they can clean the entire floor and pass preschool arithmetic.

10. Number Activities and Puzzles

Here is another enjoyable and excellent way to learn number sequences. It is super easy to make. Create photo puzzles. Label the puzzle sections in numerical sequence. Cut it apart and have your child reassemble it. It is that simple and fun to do.

Children are quick learners, and they can grasp concepts with ease. Introducing numbers to children in a fun way will benefit their understanding of numbers. Preschoolers tend to memorize numbers. When you blend the number of daily objects into the numbers, they will gradually begin to understand what the numbers imply. Each child is unique and learns at their own pace.
